Getting ready to bet on the Cheltenham Gold Cup 2021? I must admit, I'm not one for betting ante-post because anything can happen between now and the 19th March 3:30.
However, sometime you see a price and say: ''I'll have some of that!''
And that may well be the case if you fancy Nicky Henderson's Champ to be this year's winner of the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Without question, individually Nicky Henderson and J P McManus have proved successful over the years.
Henderson has won the Gold Cup with Long Run (2011) and Bob's Worth (2013). While big-time gambler J P McManus won with Syncronised (2012) when ridden by Tony McCoy.
In truth, both trainer and owner haven't achieved the success of some of their counterparts although that could be about to change with a horse appropriately named Champ.
This eight-year-old gelding, a son of King's Theatre has been a remarkably consistent horse racing 13 times and never out of the first two placings bar a fall Cheltenham when 4/9f. With a strike rate of almost 70%, there is a lot to like about this bay gelding who has total winnings of £276, 492.
Perhaps the biggest question mark for Champ is stepping up to 3m 2f, although he has proven a star turn when winning the RSA in 2020, beating another Gold Cup hope Minella Indo by one length. It gives even more hope considering he ran on so strongly.
At present, Champ is priced 12/1 with paddy Power for the 2021 Cheltenham Gold Cup.
*Personally, I've not bet on this horse.
12/1 is appealing but will have my heart in my mouth at every obstacle! He has stamina in abundance to which I have no doubt but his fencing leaves something to iron out...
Thomas Corderoy.
There’s a donkey in a field down the road has more chance. Being honest I thought he had no chance last year as well so even though I don’t like the horse he has the engine to run well but he’s jumping will have to improve if I could get 1.5 or better on Betfair on the day I lay him but he’s price now way out of my range. He’s win at the festival last year was a remarkable performance but can’t see him producing that in a gold cup.
Good look if your on
When he wins you should tag me on this thread I will donate €50 to st. Vincent de Paul a local charity for the homeless if he does.
Seamus Furlong.
I will match that £50 if Champ proves a winner.
