One of the biggest and most famous horse racing Festivals is almost underway as Cheltenham 2018 begins its four-day spectacular very soon, The Festival. There has been a lot of talk about which horses are likely to win this year and if Ruby Walsh can hold onto his title after his injury. Before heading to the races, you should do your research into what are the hot topics for this year’s Festival.
This year for Cheltenham 2018, Ruby Walsh is said to be taking charge again, as he placed 4th in last year’s season’s Champion hurdle. Despite Walsh breaking his leg, he warms up for Cheltenham festival by scoring a five-length win in a maiden hurdle. It’s his intention to return and hold onto his title on winning more races than any other jockey.
Davy Russell is hoping to be a stiff competitor to Walsh, as he might be in the chance for a win due to Walsh’s time away from the sport. Russell will be riding Presenting Percy in the RSA chase and it looks like Walsh could be in trouble for holding onto his title. As Presenting Percy is considered to be in top condition and will be racing at his absolute best.
One particular race that gotten some attention, is the Champion Hurdle W/O Buveur D’Air and the anticipated clash of last year’s winner Buveur D’Air and Faugheen. Buveur D’Air has had hardly any races all season, so this would present an unlikely win. However, if he managed to perform as admirably as he did in Cheltenham 2017, no horse in the race would be able to beat him, so he might be able to hold onto his title for another successful year. Faugheen has only just returned this season after following a long break due to his injury.
The competition is high at the festival as many place their bets in the hopes of winning it big, below is an infographic on how Paddy Power would tackle Cheltenham 2018:
